Massage therapy decreases cortisol production in the brain. What is Cortisol? It is the hormone produced by the brain during times of stress. While cortisol is helpful during short bursts of stress, like during a fight or flight situation, extended exposure to cortisol production can cause a multitude of physiological issues, one of which is it’s interference with the promotion of a healthy immune system, cortisol can increase blood pressure, increase fat storage, just to name a few.
